Relation, 1999
The common thread in my book works is the use of the time-based nature of the book format to explore complex, interwoven ideas, building layered impressions and images in the reader’s mind over the sequence of pages. Each book unfolds over time, developing a conversation, a relationship with the reader. Relation explores the constantly shifting network of connection and separation inherent in the fabric of intimate relationships. The book’s binding structure is designed to fold flat, and expands into a sculptural, interwoven form when opened. Delicate images of fabric form a rich visual field for interlocking, shifting texts.
